Xunantunich / Barton Creek Departures - On Request with 2 Minimum

The adventure begins with a scenic drive up the Western Highway to the Cayo (pronounced Ky-o) District. Xunantunich (Maya for “Maiden of the Rock”) sits just inside the Western border of Belize. Before reaching the entrance of this ancient city, your party will board a 19th century hand-cranked ferry which takes you across the Mopan River. The ruins are actually located on one of the highest plateaus in the area and it is possible to climb to the top of “El Castillo”, the largest of the temples at this site. From this vantage point, one gains a panoramic view of the Cayo District and nearby Guatemala.
After enjoying a tasty local lunch, we continue to Barton Creek Cave in Amish territory. Equipped with canoes/kayaks and high-powered lights we gently paddle into Xibalba (she-bal-ba), Maya for underworld. Stalactites and Stalagmites hang high overhead as we float past impressive calcite crystals. Our knowledgeable guides will discuss the use of this cave by the ancient Maya, while some artifacts can be seen high above the alcoves.

Altun Ha & Wildlife River Rafting Guaranteed Departures - Tues, Thurs, Sun

Board your tour vehicle for 45 minute drive en route to the Maya Ruins of Altun Ha (Maya for “Rock Stone Water”), where the famous Jade Head of “Kinich Ahau” was uncovered by Dr. David Pendergast of the Royal Ontario Museum.  Altun Ha was once a major trading center linking the Maya on the Caribbean with the Central American mainland Maya. 
After a local lunch, board a river raft for wildlife viewing.  As you float downstream along the Olde Belize River, the guide will be pointing out the prolific bird life and flora & fauna. Eyes will be peeled searching for crocodiles along the riverbank, and howler monkeys in the trees above.  Manatees and dolphins are also sometimes spotted.  A rich experience. Once the logging and commercial highway of Belize, the river contrasts between small settlements and stretches where the feeling is one of remoteness, perhaps even discovery.

Lamanai & The New River Safari Guaranteed Departures - Daily

This is one of the most interesting tours in Belize.  After an hour’s drive up the Northern Highway, you board a riverboat at Tower Hill and head up the New River.  While traversing the many little creeks and lagoons, it is easy to encounter hawks, kites and falcons.  You may also see dainty Jacanas lightly walking on the lily pads while the crocodiles bask in the morning sunlight.  At the entrance to the New River Lagoon, the ruins of Lamanai (Maya for “Submerged Crocodile”) rise into view.  While touring this site, huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest amid the chatter of birdlife and the haunting call of the Howler Monkeys.  Your guide will point out the Copal and Ramon trees, which were of great importance in ancient times.

Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve Guaranteed Departures - Mon, Thurs

Bring along your walking shoes, your swimwear and an adventurous mind for a full day of activity.  This reserve is teaming with hills and valleys, rivers and waterfalls and swimming holes and caves all surrounded by the majestic beauty of the tropical pine forest.  Our three main stops are the Rio Frio Cave, the Rio On Rapids and Pools, and road conditions permitting, you’ll get a chance to see the 1000ft. Macal River, Rainforest Medicine Trail & Cahal Pech Guaranteed Departures - Tues, Fri

A scenic drive through the villages along the Western Highway, brings you to a one of a kind pharmacy - the Rainforest Medicine Trail.  As you walk along well defined trails, your guide will point out plants and herbs once used by the Maya and still used by Belizeans today for medicinal purposes.  Samples from many of these plants and trees have been sent worldwide in the search of cures for diseases such as cancer.  After exploring nature’s pharmacy, board your canoe for a trip down the Macal Branch of the Belize River.  You may see parrots, toucans and iguanas, as they hang precariously from trees along the river.  After lunch, you start your return to Belize City, with a stop at Cahal Pech Maya ruins which boasts the restoration of many masks, stairways and structures only found at this site.

Manatee Watch & Barrier Reef Snorkel Guaranteed Departures - Daily

Depart by motor boat from Belize City to the nearby Manatee breeding grounds.  You are almost certain to see one or several of these docile and protected sea mammals.  These gentle mammals are believed to be the “mermaids” many sailors talked of as they do suckle their young. Goff’s Caye is another seven miles to the east and this small island is perched right on Belize’s Great Barrier Reef, a true picture postcard tropical paradise.  Snorkel off the pristine sandy beach with your instructors for that wonderful “Cousteau Experience”, or swim in cool waters, or relax under a palm tree.  A beach picnic lunch and refreshments are served.  Snorkel equipment is included.

Island Hopping & Reef Cruise Guaranteed Departures - Daily

Depart by motor boat from Belize City and head out to the Barrier Islands and Reef.  Sunbathe, swim and snorkel.  Stops will be made at Caye Caulker enroute to the Coral Gardens of Hol Chan Marine Reserve or other scenic spots along the Barrier Reef.  Arrive at Ambergris Caye in time for lunch at a local restaurant.  Depart Ambergris Caye with more snorkeling and island hopping on the way back to Belize City.  Includes snorkel gear.  Bring your swimsuit and towel.
