| Jacó Beach is the closest developed beach town to San Jose and is popular with Costa Ricans, backpackers, surfers and younger tourists. It has a lot of hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. Swimming is possible on the long, pretty beach, but be careful of rip tides. The beach has a couple of life guard stations, a first in Costa Rica.
