Slip sales are cruising along rapidly at Marina Pez Vela, with Phase 1 recently sold-out. Buyers around the world are seizing the opportunity to boat, fish, and explore this extraordinary destination. In response to buyer demand, Phase II was released in July, which includes 40 slips starting at $175,000.

"We are incredibly excited at buyer demand and enthusiasm about the marina's opening," states project founder Harold Lovelady. "The combination of our state-of-the-art facility and extraordinary location makes it an obvious choice for boaters and anglers." Designed and owned by sportfishing enthusiasts, Marina Pez Vela will provide a safe haven, and base of operations, for fishing along the Pacific Coast of Central America — opening thousands of miles of ocean that was previously nearly impossible to fish.

The tranquil flat waters off the Quepos coastline are renowned for some of the most spectacular sailfishing in the world. Many a fisherman's dream will soon come true amidst waters full of Pacific sailfish, marlin, tuna, dorado, roosterfish, grouper, cubera and wahoo. 8th Annual Gray International Fly Tournament

    January 28-31, 2008
    Quepos, Costa Rica

The 8th Annual Gray International Fly-fishing Tournament held in Quepos, Costa Rica was a success once again. The Tournament is hosted by El Gran Escape Restaurant and all proceeds continue to be donated to the Liver Transplant Center for Children in San Jose, Costa Rica. Fishing was good, and we definitely had a lot more action on the water than last year, which was slower than normal due to the "el niño" phenomenon.

This year we hosted 14 boats and 23 anglers during the 4 day event. There were a total of 142 sailfish and 1 striped marlin released. Jim Stanger and Larry Deddy took home the 1st place team award with a total of 23 sails released aboard the "Swordfish" with Captain Randy Morales. Abraham Concepción won 2nd place team, fishing solo aboard the "Quick Release" with Captain Jeremy Aguero Cubillo and releasing 20 sails, therefore, winning the Bill Barnes Top Angler Award this year. Third place team winners Paul Broome and Jimmy Gallagher released 17 sailfish aboard the "Gamefisher" with Captain Richard Chellemi.

The GIFT has now raised over $80,000 which is made available to help pay for the medicines, equipment and procedures involved in performing liver transplants for children here in Costa Rica. This is only made possible thanks to everyone who has participated and donated to the Tournament.

And many thanks to the following organizations and persons for their donations this year and for lending a hand to help make this a success:

  • Marina Pez Vela, Harold Lovelady & John Kane
  • Distribuidora J.B., Jesus Beita
  • Red Sun Custom Apparel, Billy Regan
