Yellow-bellied sea snakes
Yellow-bellied sea snakes - These snakes are not strong swimmers and are often washed up onto beaches along the pacific coast by strong tidal currents, especially if they are old or weak. This female appeared on the beach early one morning and seemed to be close to death: direct sunlight will soon dehydrate and kill a beached snake.
However, she quite suddenly gave birth to a baby and both snakes then began to wriggle on the warming sand in an attempt to reach water. Eventually a wave took them back into the sea.
