Scarlet Macaws
Scarlet Macaws - Scarlet Macaws are monogamous birds, spending their entire adult life with just one mate. They are however, very sociable and can be found together in groups of up to 15 or 20 individuals while feeding on wild almond trees close to the beach. These birds were previously common inhabitants of both the Pacific and Caribbean slopes of Costa Rica, though regrettably hunting and the pet trade have caused a dramatic reduction in their numbers. Carara and Corcovado National Parks provide relatively safe refuges for the largest remaining populations and Palo Verde National Park is home to a small number of individuals.
