This is a comment from Ramsay Young and his family, who took our "Northern Highlands and Lowlands of Costa Rica" tour in August. We thank them for their remarks and sending some of the many beautiful photos they took while on the tour.

"My wife is the researcher in the family when it comes to holidays and she struck gold when Costa Rica was identified as a destination. Four years ago she arranged for our son to visit as a conservation volunteer between school and university. He spent a few weeks in the south east near Cahuita.

As a result of his enthusiasm we decided on a family holiday for five, three weeks touring with the middle week with Adrian Hepworth as a treat for me as an enthusiastic amateur wildlife photographer.

I have been taking photos for much of the last 30 odd years and Adrian really helped me make a jump in terms of results. The combination of his coaching and the extraordinary subject matter provided by Costa Rica helped me progress my results. What was the biggest difference Adrian’s tuition made to me?
Once I have a shot that I’m pleased with, I ask myself, “What single biggest change would improve it?”.
I try that. I then ask the question again, and try it again. I repeat this process for as long is practical and my shots have changed dramatically between the start and end of the process. It may be composition, background, exposure, a dark shadow, bouncing flash, use of only natural light, whatever; there are so many things that can change a shot.

As a result of the week in CR I am currently writing an article which I plan to submit to travel and photography magazines within the UK. The emphasis of the article will be around wildlife photography, the attraction of being coached by Adrian, Costa Rica and it’s astonishing flora and fauna. I also now have enough confidence to enter some photography competitions to test myself against others and be judged.

Adrian fitted in with the family exceptionally well, he never stopped working with us from breakfast till bed time, (if we wanted), and stretched everyone taking photos.

As a result of the trip we arranged for my son and his partner to do another voluntary project in Cabuya for 2 months. We have been smitten by the CR and it’s people and have been telling many people of it’s attractions – we will be back".

We would like to congratulate Ramsay Young on his beautiful photographs and thank him and his family for allowing us to share them.

As you can see from these photographs the first trick is to find the subjects. While Costa Rica has an abundance of wildlife they do not always present themselves when you want. One of the strengths of our photo tours is having very experienced guides. And, of course, there is no substitute for having an award winning photographer who has vast experience shooting Costa Rican wildlife in dificult rainforest lighting conditions. If you would like to return from Costa Rica with quality photographs instead of snapshots this is the tour for you.
