| The Café "El Cafetal de la
luz", is the perfect spot for interesting encounters when you can
sample exquisite liqueurs and have informal meals. The city of San Jose
was peaceful and quiet at the turn of the last century. One day
something happened that made it change forever: Light arrived. It
happened on August 9th,1884; San Jose became the third city in the
world and the first one in Latin America illuminated by electric
energy, after New York and Paris. The first electric plant was installed in the small and cozy Barrio Amon, in the midst of coffee plantations, next to the Rio Torres. This was a novelty that attracted both nationals and foreigners, who visited the place they called the "CAFETAL DE LA LUZ" (COFFEE PLANTATION OF LIGHT). That CAFETAL DE LA LUZ, the historical place is the same place where you are sitting at this moment and is the reason we are so proud of having adopted this name.
