The Turrialba Valley lies 65 km. east of San José, the nation's capital. Irrigated by the Reventazón River, the valley is home of famous white water rafting and coffee plantations.

This region, with evenly distributed rains during the year, comprises a green mosaic of primary mountain-forests, biological reserves, primary and secondary forests, and coffee plantations. A delicate balance has been maintained between agricultural development and ecological preservation. The scenic beauty, fauna & flora diversity, along with the development of white-water rafting and kayaking make Turrialba a favorite spot for adventure tourism and scientific exploration.
