AREA & ACTIVITIES
Hotel
Villas Gaia is situated where the mountains come down to the sea in the
region called Fila Costeña. This biologically diverse region is
surrounded by some of Costa Rica's most famous natural attractions: the
vast wilderness of Corcovado National Park, the protected waters of
Ballena Marine Park, Caño Island and the Rio Terraba- Sierpe
extensive mangrove ecosystem.
The region is a bird watcher's paradise (450 counted species!!!) and
has one of Central America's last stands of magnificent coastal rain
forest. Miles of deserted beaches
to the north offer abundant opportunities for swimming, surfing,
kayaking and exploring. The village of Ojochal is 1 kilometer South of
Hotel Vilas Gaia and is populated by Costa Ricans and foreigners alike.
There is no 'touristy' atmosphere and the impression of down-to-earth
living and community- wide friendliness can be felt travelers wanting a
real cultural experience. The Costa Rican owned and operated waterfall
and gardens in Ojochal make for a lovely excursion from Hotel Vilas
Gaia. The surroundings of the village are steep high mountains coming
down to the sea, cloaked with rainforest. There is a nice river that
winds its way through Ojochal on its way to the sea at Playa Tortuga.
