Making us also a great alternative to bring your non-surfing friend or the entire family because we can offer several locations and a variety of types of accommodations that best fit your needs from 2 star to 5 star world class accommodations or even a private fully furnished beach house or condo.

We let you decide:
Location: either Quepos/Manuel Antonio or Playa Hermosa/Playa Jaco area or a couple days in each location.
Level of Experience: we have a program for the novice or advanced surfer.
Level of comfort: We can offer you 2 star to 5 star world class accommodations or even a private beach house.
Surf Lessons/Guide Service: You can get surf lessons or have a local Surfguide show you to the best surf spots at the best time so you can make the most of your time in and out of the water.

Our Surf School director Michael Brooks oversees the COSTA RICA SURF SCHOOL program and the Surf guides. Our Instructors are some of the best in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica Surf School director: Mike Brooks
Mike fell in love with Costa Rica in 1980 when he took his first surf trip there and since that time has surfed most of the country with his wife Lorenz. Mike has lived and worked in Costa Rica managing a hotel and running Surf Schools. He has been working as a Costa Rica Travel expert for over 15 years helping surfers plan their vacations and working as a surf guide. Mike designed this school based on his many years of experience. It has proven to be both challenging and fun for all levels of surfers as well as an opportunity to experience all the culture and natural beauty Costa Rica has to offer.
Mike now spends his time managing the camps and has some of the best surfers assisting him to provide surf lessons for beginning surfers and Surf Guide service for the more Advanced Surfers.

Beginner Surf Package:
Our Quepos Surf School is in the small town of Quepos on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The School is hosted at the recently remodeled Sirena Hotel. The Sirena Hotel is a small privately owned hotel located in downtown Quepos within easy walking distance to restaurants and night life. The hotel is conveniently located within 2 blocks of the Quepos waterfront. It offers comfortable accommodations, A/C and a swimming pool. If you are looking for more deluxe accommodation we do also offer upgrades to some of our affiliate 4 and 5 star hotels in Manuel Antonio such as the Costa Verde Hotel, La Mariposa Hotel or Si Como No Hotel just to name a few.

The world famous Manuel Antonio National Rainforest Park, known as the “Natural Zoo” because of its abundant wildlife, is only minutes away by car.

We chose Quepos/Manuel Antonio because it offers the best of both worlds. There are plenty of modern conveniences like restaurants, cafes and nightlife, yet only minutes out of town you can find yourself either in the jungle inhabited by endangered monkeys and Scarlet Macaws flying overhead or on a deserted beach with great surf. Of course one the biggest draws for Surfers are the warm Pacific Ocean with some of the most consistent uncrowded surf breaks in the world. Truly a surfer’s paradise...

The Quepos Surf School was designed with the beginner to intermediate surfer in mind. Generally the Quepos/Manuel Antonio beach is on a semi protected cove which tends to have a little smaller surf than some of the other surf breaks to the north and South. It also has a nice soft sand bottom making those landings a lot less dangerous.

Quepos Surf School is also a perfect location to bring along your non-surfing friends or family members. Nearby Manuel Antonio is one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica and the National Park is one of the best examples of a protected Rainforest Park in the world. You can surf while your friends and family are enjoying guided adventure tours like the Canopy Tour, horseback riding through the jungle, white water rafting or world class fishing.

Advanced / Intermediate Surfer Package:

If you are a more advanced surfer and you are looking for head high plus surf then you may not be looking for instruction but would still like to have someone to surf with and guide you to the best surf spots. We would recommend that you sign up for our Advanced Surfer program. Our Advanced Surfer package is based in the Playa Hermosa/Jaco Beach area where you will find some of the most consistent surf in the world .You can surf the powerful beach breaks of Playa Hermosa or drive 5 minutes away and find playful chest to head high waves in Playa Jaco .You can either stay in Quepos/Manuel Antonio and we offer day tours to Playa Hermosa or you can break up your trip and stay a few days in each location. We will also plan the entire trip in the Playa Hermosa/Playa Jaco area.

Advanced Surfer Package option 1:

If you want to surf bigger waves but still want to stay in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area we can take you on a one hour tour up the coast to surf the Playa Hermosa/Playa Jaco where you will find some of the most consistently powerful waves in Costa Rica. Your guide will meet you at a prearranged time at your hotel in Quepos or Manuel Antonio.Ask your Tico Travel agent about pre-booking your guided Surf Tours

Advanced Surfer Package option 2:

You can opt to stay at one of our affiliate hotels in the Playa Jaco/Playa Hermosa for either part or all of your Surf vacation. We have several great hotels to choose from either in Playa Jaco which is within walking distance to many restaurants and nightlife and consistent surf yet only 5 minutes from Playa Hermosa or if you prefer you can stay right in Playa Hermosa at one of our affiliate hotels such as the Terraza Del Pacifco, Fuego Del Sol or even your own private 2 bedroom beach Bungalow on the beach with all the comforts of home.

Local Area Involvement

We support the non-profit Surf School program in Costa Rica which teaches local children how to surf, purchase surfboards and educate them on environmental issues. A portion of all proceeds go towards this local non-profit Surf School program in Costa Rica. We also employee most of our skilled Surf Guides from the local surfing community.

You will arrive into San Jose the capital of Costa Rica.
Quepos is located on the Pacific Coast about 3 ½ hours drive from the International airport. We can either have one of our driver’s meet you at the airport with a sign with you name on it and drive you through the mountains and coffee fields and than down the coastal highway along to the Manuel Antonio Surf School or you can take a short 20 minute hopper flight directly into Quepos where you will be met by one of our camp representatives and brought to your hotel.
Note: Please speak to you Tico Travel agent and they will let you know what your best transfer options will be depending upon your flight times and dates and if you are bring your own surfboards or not (rental boards are available upon request)

Quepos - This small left point at the river mouth in the city of Quepos, located right in front of the Sirena Hotel. It’s a perfect wave for learning to surf, riding a longboard or even high performance short boarding when the swell is running.

Manuel Antonio National Park - Not many people know it but there can be a very good wave located inside the park when the swell is good. Best for advanced surfers because of the rocky bottom.

Advanced Package Surf Spots

Playita Manuel Antonio - One of the most beautiful beaches in all of Costa Rica adjacent to the Manuel Antonio National Rainforest Park. The Beach is a mile long stretch of white sand beach lined with Coconut and Almond trees teaming with Monkeys. Fun waves at the far South end of the beach the waves tends to gradually gets bigger as you walk north. So we can usually find waves to suit any surfer.

Damas Island - Only minutes from the Sirena Hotel. Damas Island can be reached by a short boat ride across an estuary teaming with wildlife. There are plenty of beach breaks for the novice surfer and a river mouth for the advanced surfer. As with other river mouth’s best to surf it when the tide is coming in.

Playa El Rey - Rights and lefts beach break peaks. Best access to get there is taking the road to playa Dominical, 25 minutes from Quepos, in Roncador go right 11 kms and your there. very secluded you have to drive the thousands of acres of Palm trees. 

Palo Seco - Totally uncrowded surf break black sand beach best on higher tides.

Playa Hermosa - A 3 mile stretch of black sand beach with some of the most consistently powerful waves in Costa Rica. Fortunately it is almost all sand bottom and you can always find an uncrowded peak somewhere along the stretch of beach.

Playa Jaco - Usually a little but smaller and less powerful than Playa Hermosa but it is very consistent and you can surf there almost everyday of the year at the right time of the day which is normally during the high tide.
