Costa Rican Nights is a three
hour tour, visitors will be greeted with fireworks and a welcome
cocktail followed by the show “Historias Ticas” which
highlights historical anecdotes, customs, traditions and characters.

culture and the ways daily life are combined with popular culture.

The Costa Rica Nights show takes place in “Pueblo
Antiguo” recreates the architectural styles found in Costa Rica
between 1880 and 1930 and represents the country’s life in the
capital near the turn of the century. “Pueblo Antiguo”
reproduces some of San José’s most important buildings
including: the Church near the Central Park, Congress, the market,
Hospital “San Juan de Dios,” “La Universal”
building, the fire station (as a theater) and the bank. All of them
preserve the particular style of the time period.

The show begins with a party the Costa Ricans call a
“Turno”, in this case held in a small town in
Guanacaste. Through this party the visitors see how
people´s lives progress within the community. The description of
the courtship between two of the characters, Miguelillo y Hortensia,
allows direct narration to the spectator to explain the experiences of
the typical dances, the “mascarada,” and the difference
between the city courtship and country courtship. And through this
bilingual dialogue, the spectator also learns interesting geographical
and historical facts for new visitors to Costa Rica.
|
|
Acrobatics with fabrics and “zancos” are
used to give a visual explanation of the Indians’ beliefs and the
variety and richness of Costa Rica´s flora and fauna.
|

|
 |
The show then
moves to Limon to see the history, customs and religious beliefs of
Costa Rica´s black race. Finally the show reaches its
highest expression with a live musical and dance presentation of
“calypso” music, “boleros”,
“salsas”, “merengues” y “cumbias”.
This dance party showcases elements of Costa Rica´s popular
culture still used today. |
| This tour
includes a typical buffet dinner served in the restaurant “El
Ventolero” accompanied by “marimba” music. It
concludes with a guided tour through Costa Rican history visiting the
historical representation of San José in “Pueblo
Antiguo.” |
